Saturday, September 19 – Beginner Herding & Stock Handling Clinic on Sheep

*No previous experience necessary for dogs and/or handlers. Dogs MUST have basic obedience to attend.

Date: September 19, 2020

Time: 9 AM start

Cost: $155/dog. $75 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot.

Where: Chasin’ Dreams Arena, Located south of Stony Plain, Alberta

Clinician: Gerri Quinn-Kucy

Details: Day starts promptly at 9 AM with herding theory and an introduction to stock handling. You will learn the basics of the predator/prey relationship, how stock move, and how to safely enter the herding arena. This will take approximately 2 hours depending on the number of participants. After theory, dogs will work on sheep with the instructor in the arena with you. You will get a guaranteed two works on sheep. There will be many opportunities for Q&A and discussion throughout the day. Please bring your own lunch, drinks and a chair. We expect all participants to be present in the arena while others are working so you can learn from each other. Please bring a hard crate/wire crate for your dog. Rain or shine as we have indoor facilities available. Dress for the weather. Dogs MUST be kept on a leash when outside the vehicle or finished your turn. Flat collars ONLY. Dogs with a harness, choke chain or pinch collar will not be allowed to work. Please bring bags to pick up poop. This is a working farm. Please do not walk your dog near other pens of animals. Limit of 8 dogs.

Cost: $125/dog. $75 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot. $50 balance due on arrival in cash. Deposit can be sent by e-transfer or cheque.

Where: Royalene Ranch, Stony Plain, Alberta

Clinician: Gerri Quinn-Kucy

Details: Day starts promptly at 9 AM with introductions and theory of herding. After theory, dogs will work on cattle on a 30 ft. line. Please bring your own lunch, drinks and a chair. Rain or shine as we have indoor facilities available. Dress for the weather. Dogs must be kept in your vehicle or in a crate in the designated area until it is your turn. Dogs MUST be kept on a leash when outside the vehicle or finished your turn. Please bring bags to pick up poop. This is a working farm. As such, there are animals in pens near the arena. Please do not walk your dog near the pens. Limit of 8 dogs.

Cost: $50 for first dog, $30 dollars for each additional dog. CASH only on arrival.
