About Us

Having the ability to herd with their dogs close to home was the dream of Gerri and Cindy. Their herding journey began working under trainers in BC and Saskatchewan, and having the ability to train and learn here in Alberta became their goal. A dream became a reality by partnering with Sheldon and Leanne from Chasin’ Dreams Arena. Chasin’ Dreams is located south of Wabamun Lake on a family-owned-and-run ranch. Raising sheep, horses, and cattle, Chasin’ Dreams lives and breathes stockmanship and uses their dogs to complete the daily operations on the farm. The combination of the experience from Sheldon and Leanne along with the event management and teaching from Cindy and Gerri, Paws in the Pasture came to be! Our work at Paws is focused on providing dog owners with a high-quality opportunity to learn how to herd livestock with their dog.

We welcome any dog breed and their people to join us at the ranch. Dogs are first introduced to sheep through an instinct test. This test helps us determine the readiness of the dog to work stock and if they show a natural inclination to herd. Once this is determined, we provide a training plan for both owner and dog to learn how to herd together.

Many of our students go on to compete in herding trials, but others choose to come and learn for the joy of it! We find that when dogs are given a job, they are happier and healthier and often have fewer behaviours at home.
